Oslo like a local: Top plans in the capital

If there's one thing I love when I travel, it's feeling like a local. And in Oslo, that's easier than you think. This city has a special charm and a unique essence that captures you from the first moment. So, if you are looking to immerse yourself in the daily life of Oslo, here are my favorite plans to enjoy the Norwegian capital as if you lived there.

1. Street food

If you are one of those who loves to discover new flavors, you have to stop by Oslo Street Food on Torggata Street. This place is a gastronomic paradise with many food stalls from all over the world. The best thing is that it's not just for eating, there is also live music and, if you go with friends, you can even play one of the many board games they have to lend you.

Another interesting food stop is Mathallen Food Hall. In this gourmet market you will find everything from fresh local products to prepared meals, all in a super lively atmosphere.

2. Sunset at the Opera

The Oslo Opera building is impressive during the day, but when the sun sets it becomes a magical place. Don't miss the opportunity to climb to the roof of the opera house to enjoy an unforgettable sunset overlooking the fjord. The golden light reflected on the water and the modern architecture of the building create a super special atmosphere.

3. A swim in the fjord: Aker Brygge y Bjørvika

What better way to enjoy summer in Oslo than by taking a dip in the fjord? In Aker Brygge and Bjørvika you will find areas equipped for bathing, with sun loungers, diving boards and showers. Imagine spending the afternoon sunbathing, cooling off in the water and enjoying the relaxed and family atmosphere of these areas.

4. Floating saunas

Do you dare to live an authentic Norwegian experience? Then you have to complete your bath in the fjord with a sauna. This plan is very typical during winters, when the fjord water is frozen. After a good time in the sauna, locals jump into the frozen fjord water for a revitalizing dip. There are several floating saunas in Aker Brygge and Bjørvika where you can do this. It is a perfect plan for any time of the year, but in winter, with the contrast of the cold outside and the heat of the sauna, it is a unique experience that you cannot miss.

5. Cinnamon Rolls, yes please

If there is a sweet that you cannot miss in Oslo, it is cinnamon rolls. The most famous are those by W.B Samson, but for me those by Backstube are simply irresistible. Tender, fluffy and with that perfect touch of cinnamon, they are the ideal accompaniment for an afternoon stroll through the city.

6. A Sunday in Sognsvann

Do you want to escape a little from the hustle and bustle of the city? A Sunday in Sognsvann is the perfect plan. This lake, surrounded by forests, is a quiet and beautiful place to disconnect. You can have a picnic, walk around the lake, or just sit and enjoy nature. It is the place where locals go to relax and recharge their batteries for the next week. In winter you can even see the incredible northern lights here!
